Introducing: Kith and Kin Illustrations

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

Congratulations to Kith and Kin Illustrations (aka Jacqueline Daniel) who joins Wraptious this month after coming 2nd in our Autumn competition! Jacqueline is based in Hayfield, Peak District, and is surrounded by spectacular landscapes and lovely rural animals (which have a huge influence on how and what she creates!) We're looking forward to showcasing her lovely watercolour work as a brand new giftware range. Here's a little more about her.

What does a typical day look like for you? How do you organise your time?

An average day consists of tackling chores in the morning so I can then focus on orders and creating after lunch. I also love to sit in the evenings with my art journal and doodle my ideas.

What mediums do you work in?

I work mainly in watercolour and have dabbled with acrylics, which I hope to expand on later this year. I also love to create things with clay.

What inspires your designs?

I am based in Hayfield which is in the middle of the beautiful Peak District, UK. We are surrounded by majestic hills with spectacular views and lots of lovely rural animals. All of which have a huge influence on how and what I create.

Which artists do you admire or have influenced you?

The amazing Beatrix Potter. For her beautiful illustrations and the amazing life she led.

Beatrix Potter

What’s the greatest challenge of being an artist?

Believing in myself. I spent a very long time doubting myself which is never good.

What’s your top tip for other artists?

Draw or paint every day. Even if it's just a 30 second doodle on the back of an envelope. The more you practice the better you get.

What is your favourite piece of your own work and why?

I find it difficult to choose a favourite as I'm quite fickle and easily fall in love with each piece I make.

What would your dream job be?

I would love to illustrate books.

Favourite quote!

'Practice never made anything worse'
